The Internet here is making the old I-house Interent look lightning-fast. x_x 10kb/s FAIL. Also, I was accidentally half an hour late to work today, which I am secretly glad for because the day was sooo sloooow. Post-Christmas shopping rushes do not affect us. XD But ultimately, I feel this day was good. :3

Good! Gary stopped by (with his sister and his mother) to visit me at the store, and then I ran into Justin during my dinnerbreak, which came at 2:30 when I was still full from lunch, because my bosses didn't want to have to cover for me (okay, that part wasn't good - the running into was XD).

Good! I have a little book on basic Japanese grammar and it is actually helpful. I wish it had kana as well as romaji for the examples, but it's succinct and gets the basic idea of things across, which is more what I need.

Good! [livejournal.com profile] dammitliv and [livejournal.com profile] elagnithgins, and [livejournal.com profile] pot_and_kettle's presents all came today! It was like Christmas morning, but at 11pm and more exciting. XDDD ♥♥♥ My mom kept hovering around to find out what I got, too. Sys, everything was lovely, but I gotta say that I love that the pen was wrapped in some kid's math progress report. XD Definitely unique wrapping paper.

Good! Revisiting the old "list your top 10 celebrities" meme at [livejournal.com profile] kamikaze_bunny's demand. XD The last time I did this was over three years ago when I was still heavily into X-men RPGs and not yet really in J-fandoms. This time? I went solely with Asian fandoms. And I am so indecisive I started kinda picking by category, which is how they're organized (as opposed to in 10-1 order). Also, if you asked me my top ten in a month, some of them would probably be different. :P

(Internet is now at 7.6kb/sec. *diiiies veeerry sloooowly*)

Hiyo, shiny people! )

Well, that's my list! I really rambled a lot, as I usually end up doing... :P And I could've added at least a few more people to this list, I think, since I like a lot of people equally/almost equally, but for different reasons. This will definitely do for now, though!

Tomorrow, we are off to the U.S.S. Enterprise! W00t~

Adopt one today! Adopt one today!

From O'sensei Ueshiba Morihei's collection of doka, little sayings that apply to the practice of Aikido:

Large does not always defeat little.
Little can become large by constant building;
large can become little by falling apart.

I ran across this while going through the doka for a paper I had to write on them. Unlike most of them, which tend to be 'deep' or have this sense of serene balance, this one seems kind of cute to me as well. Maybe it's just because I'm little. XD It does reflect that sense of balance that O'sensei liked to stress, though, and the general sense within Aikido that being big and strong doesn't automatically make you the winner. If you're small, but able to use your opponent's strength against them, there's no reason for you to lose. :D

In other news, welcome back to the world of catchy poppy Korean songs, SS501! Rebirth is a good mini-album title, especially since because everyone went and changed their hair, I had to actually concentrate to figure out who was who the first time around. >.>

....I should've learned from last night to go to sleep before or at the same time as my roommate. >.> At least I'm definitely more tired tonight, even after a nap, so hopefully, I'll be able to sleep more tonight.

Pancake Breakfast was a lot of fun, but in different ways from last year. I saw a lot of friends from Coffee Night and elsewhere, and felt like I did less work than the last two times. It took me around half an hour to get my yukata on; I think the first step of just tying the thing closed was as hard as tying the obi. XD But Hitomi thought I was a genius, so yay~

I didn't take many pictures, but there are about a million floating around and I will get some. During George and my performance (with Arash, for two songs), there were so many camera flashes going off, and there were photographers like, crouched on the ground right in front of us and you could hear the clickclickclick... I wanted to laugh because it had such a celebrity feel to it. XD Ah, today would've been such a good day to start that photo-meme that's going around again... it'd cover Pancake Breakfast, International Quiz on Friday, the Halloween party on Friday night, and actual Halloween.

My parents came by, and BROUGHT ME A PUMPKIN. ♥ Actually, they brought a large pumpkin for the house, and a small pumpkin for me (which I discovered after I left), a pot of mums, and a carving kit. And also the stuff roomie and I ordered from HMV, some cough medicine, and vitamins. >.>

I really want to just rec this channel, but まるです。 (I am Maru) is a good starting point. Maru is a big fat cat with adorable sock-mitten feet and an awesome, quirky personality that shows in cutehilarious ways (Maru loves boxes) and who lives in Japan. ♥ If he was my cat, I don't think I'd ever watch TV... not that I watch TV on the TV much these days anyway, but you know what I mean.

Maru also has a blog with nice pictures and other little characters like Harry the stuffed hedgehog and a giant Kapibara-san! Eee.

In other news, between my GPA, my lack of previous clinical experience and the fact that the clinic applications apparently close twelve hours before the time stated in the e-mail sent around, I will definitely be here another semester to take clinic. -_-; You can submit a late app if there's still space in clinic, but the only thing I really have going for me is my senior status, and if I have to retake classes like I think I do (but I don't for sure, because the head of clinic hasn't gotten back to me yet), I don't even have that. >.>
yeouya: (epik high - in ur tv bein dorks)
We had to scrap the Secret song (a song from the Jay Chou movie, Secret, that is) because I failed at it once we moved from the basement to the actual 'stage.' I don't know what happened exactly (I know what I did wrong, but I don't understand why I lost my sense of counting so badly), but I'm disappointed, even though in reality, I know that I only learned the song - without sheet music, too, which I'm pretty dependent on - two days ago, and George went and changed all of the rhythms today. >.>

So we're playing Pachelbel's Canon and "Memories" from Cats with Arash, and the short violin duet we played last semester; actually, it's all from last semester. XD But it's fine. We didn't know we'd been automatically signed up to perform until less than a week ago.

I still don't really feel ready. I hate that whenever I perform, regardless of how well I've tuned beforehand, I always feel like I'm wildly out of tune. x_x

Well. I'll wake up at 8 to get dressed, practice with George at 8:45, and then be ready for my shift at 9:10... this weekend feels like it's been non-existant, which always happens with PCB. It just takes over.

Day 4 already? o_O Hm. A site, eh? How about Denshi Jisho? Sometimes, I feel like their definitions for words are really, really broad or really varied (which may just be the word, but I dunno), but I generally find this site pretty useful. As in, I depend on it for word lookups when I try to translate. :P

I really like their Kanji look-up system, where you can select any/all of the radicals in a kanji and - usually - find it, and also that you can get sample sentences using the words you look up, though the results of that can be hit-or-miss, depending on what you're looking up. Also, when I just want to get hiragana for something, I like that I can type the romaji into the search box and it gets turned into hiragana.

...I can still hear snoring even with my headphones in and music turned up about four times louder than usual (yes, I know this is bad for my ears >.> I seriously cannot sleep with snoring, though; I'm just waiting for it to stop for a bit).

To end on a good note, Korean pancakes = excellent. The kimchi ones are bright orange, and have just the slightest bite to them at the end. XD

Pancake Breakfast rehearsal was today, and it was extra-chaotic. Every semester, things seem to get more (unncessecarily) complicated, so that was fun. >.>

Good news! I did a lot better than I thought I would on my midterms! There was one, all essays, that I took while sick, and I pulled off a 95%. How, I don't know, but I am not complaining. XD

Bad news! Eh, you don't need to read about it~ )

This one is surprisingly hard, not in the least because I have been failing at reading new things this year, and I'm so indecisive I can't pick a book to recommend. It usually depends on who I'm recommending a book to, but! I'll try with: a comic book!

Marvel 1602 (it's Wiki, so it does have the entire story written out for the spoiler-phobic who take this rec seriously XD) was written in 2003 by none other than Neil Gaiman, and illustrated by Andy Kubert and Richard Isanove. It basically took the Marvel universe, and placed it in, well, 1602, during a time where the 'witchbreed' - mutants - are being hunted down and killed.

One thing I really like about 1602 is the variety of characters Gaiman packs into eight issues (though for me, it's one hard-cover book XD). There's Charles Xavier and the original five X-men, Daredevil, Magneto, Quicksilver and Scarlet Witch, the Fantastic Four, Dr. Doom, Stephen Strange, Nick Fury, Thor, Captain America, Hulk and others, all renamed to be a bit more period-appropriate (I suppose), of course, as well as several historical figures. There's a departure from the typical Marvel illustration style, which is also nice; it looks more hand-drawn, more hand-colored, and less flat, somehow.

Gaiman doesn't really have much time to establish different personalities with the 1602 versions of the Marvel characters, but it's not really necessary. The plot is interesting and different just because of its context, but isn't particularly innovative or 'new.' But 1602 is really just a fun spinoff with a few twists thrown in. From a company where most spin-offs take place in roughly the same time as canon, just with different people in different configurations, it's a really nice alternative.

I had to clean up the messes at the bottoms of two of our three fridges downstairs. So gross. I've already shared all the details with my roomie, so the flist is spared. Also, someone who was probably here during the summer left a bin with food in it which has since molded and leaked (luckily, just into the bin) and was basically turning all sorts of interesting colors and textures. *gags*

When I went home last weekend, I once again really wanted to move out. I love having 'my own' kitchen (or a family kitchen, at least - not a kitchen-shaped room for 72 people and their friends); I actually feel like cooking.

This cleaning is in preparation for our semi-annual Pancake Breakfast, which will be happening this Sunday, at the I-House! I was automatically (-_-) signed up to perform with George, so we will be playing Pachelbel's Canon with Arash on piano again, as well as a song from Secret, adapated from piano for violin and viola (George figured it all out tonight). As always, I would love to see any local LJ friends there, if you can make it. ;)

Please to be clicking for the full-sized one. :3 This picture was taken by Hiroto from Alice Nine and posted at his blog (warning for streaming sound/tiny video clip), and though there are many other skyscapes I pondered, this one had grabbed my attention the most when I first saw it. Hiroto seems to really love, and draw inspiration and strength from the sky, and I think it shows in the pictures he takes - well, the sky-rambling he does on his blog helps, too.

Time to start plotting my version of NaNo this year... along with making my Halloween costume, and, of course, figuring out if I can graduate in May, or at least only one semester later. >.>

Over heeere

It's a mix of V6 (for [livejournal.com profile] jmusic50, Versailles, with a few of Uruha, Gou from Megamasso, KAT-TUN, Ayabie, Vistlip, and GLAY. If you'd like to vote, please pick your top five (from 5th to 1st) and say why you like it; it can be something simple, like, "Nice crop!" but a bit more detail is always more helpful. XD

I will probably crosspost this to [livejournal.com profile] dammitliz, so... yeah. Sorry for the repetition. :P

And now, I'll start this meme, even though Thursday is a weird day to start on (especially when it's only been Thursday for twenty minutes - I still haven't decided if this still counts as Wednesday):

Like [livejournal.com profile] zenni, I can forsee myself having trouble sticking to one rec per category, so I'll start off on a good foot, and go with two. Ha.

This is the song I was originally going to link, because I have been listening to it a lot lately, and I am still in awe of V6's sex lyrics. >.> Maybe it's because they're a senpai band in JE, but I was not expecting this from them at all.

V6 - Voltage

The lyrics are here if you're interested. It really is about sex, I swear.

But this song was playing when I was pondering this meme, and I thought it'd be nice to also actually rec someone less well known (though among Johnny's, V6 is not a frontrunner among LJ fandom, at least), so:

Def Tech - Future Child

Def Tech is a Japanese-Hawaiian group that pioneered their own genre they dubbed "Jawaiian," - Japanese-Hawaiian reggae. This song shows off their style pretty well (and they use the word Jawaiian in it!); it's not for everyone, and I can't listen to them all the time, but they're good if you're having a good day. XD Kinda funky, kinda weird, but fun.

So here is a little thing for those of you who like J-drama-fic (and maybe J-drama fic involving people who aren't in JE, since the other anonymemes have that covered XD): J-Drama Fic Anonymeme!

I hope people start writing soon because failure is embarrassing, though I think dramafic tends to take a little thought than just your standard X-and-Y-equals... what, Jin?-meet-in-a-jimusho-closet PWP, so perhaps tomorrow things will appear. :D I have at least one idea myself.

I'm told Daichi got home alright and that he was in a "safe airplane." I'm not sure if that was his phrase or Keri's, but either way... XD

And that long song meme Liv and Kelly did )
yeouya: (sato takeru - countdown)
Random memage snagged from slytherisa )

Yeah, this post is pointless. :D Well, it's kind of GIPy! Sato Takeru looks quite a bit like Kame in this picture, and not as sleepless/hungry as he has been looking in Mei-chan, which I am caught up on now! I want to squish Mameshiba so much... and I really empathize with him (aside from the whole... competing with his brother thing, 'cause I don't see that happening with me anytime soon XD). Though... Erika and I are both wondering if Yamada Yu's character is supposed to be a high-school age girl, because even with Asian unaging skills, she doesn't quite look young enough. >.>

And on a barely-related note ('cause they weren't in the episode at all), I had no idea the actors playing old!Hongo's butler clones are actually (rather adorkably lovely) twins. Pretty and stalkable. Ooh, and one of them is in another drama with the actor playing Aoyama, with both of them acting as cafe workers. Yay, snappy uniforms?

I also watched D's Snow White PV Offshot (that Iris squished for me <3333), and I don't think Ruiza has ever been so flat-out adorable as he was when he was clinging to Hide-zou. ♥
yeouya: (lee jun ki - hunted)
♥ The Animaniacs will never not be awesome.

♥ Snagged The Alphabet Icon Challenge meme thing from [livejournal.com profile] noveltea. It's like the fic one that I still have to write for but am totally ignoring, yes but with icons.

♥ I'm co-modding another comm: [livejournal.com profile] popversified! [livejournal.com profile] dammitliv created it and wanted a co-mod for the Jpop/K/C-music parts that she's not as familiar with. It's a place for AU crossovers between the band of your choice and a book/movie/TV show/video game/etc.

♥ An (probably a month-old?) episode of Music Core was on the Korean channel on Sunday, which was cool. I had fun trying to predict who would be on, though I had to write down some names to try and look them up later by guessing who I thought they were based on the number of people in the group. And it's nice getting to see groups/artists I hadn't heard of, or hadn't listened to much. The lineup that I either recognized or could write down and decipher in some form while I was watching:

Smash (without Shin Bong Sun) - Never Ending Story
Untouchable feat. Hwayobi - It's Okay
Wonder Girls - Nobody
Nell - Part 2
2PM - Only You + 10 out of 10
SS501 - UR Man
Big Bang - Sunset Glow
Bi - Only You

...I wrote down the title for another one in Hangul, and didn't get the female singer's name at all. And there was another one I completely missed that was quite pretty. The Smash song was pretty catchy, and they do a silly little leg-swinging dance in it at one point that amused me. XD I think Music Core got their subtitles wrong because I know I didn't miswrite it, but I had 2PM down as 10PM and "10 out of 10" starting with a 2. And Nell! I've only heard them through the collaborations their members have done with Epik High, but I think I want to check them out more. XD

Today, there was a program doing a top 20 countdown of... guys. I'm not sure what the qualifications were, but Tablo was #9 and John Hoon was #2. Yay?

Adopt one today! Adopt one today! Adopt one today!

I am vaguely disappointed that I am not being half as productive on the anonymeme this year. I wonder how I did it last year... On the other hand, I'm not really being productive anywhere, so this is relatively normal. >.>

Hoarding of things is going pretty well, except that I completely failed at the hoarding of Pi Li MIT and have been watching it as i download. And I'm slowly slowly watching Ryuusei no Kizuna (first episode two nights ago, second one... maybe tonight). So far, I like it... Nino and Ryo's character's confused phone conversation about Post-Its was the definite highlight for me.

Um... yes. Maybe going to dim sum tomorrow. :D Yay, more greasy Chinese food (*eyes leftovers in the fridge*)! But dan tat, too. :D Yeah, I missed Chinese food while I was at school.

I was going to post this before New Year's Eve was over, but then I decided that I would include all of my drabbles, so I ran out of time collecting those (and of course, I was doing this while trying to finish a rushed little set of holiday drabbles, which didn't help).

I didn't have time to get something festive up for Christmas, so here is my late contribution to the holiday season. Friends not in the Asian music fandoms, all I have for you are ♥♥♥ this year... friends who are in the Asian music fandoms (specifically in these ickle drabbles are: Alice Nine/SID (Akipon, of course), Fahrenheit, Kanjani8, KAT-TUN, NEWS, SCREW, and w-inds.) ...and I just realized I formatted this differently than last year's, and I'd like to stay consistant. Good thing I'm still hyped up on sugar! :D But not so hyped up that I'm going to include all of the drabbles from the drabble wars with Iris during the summer. >.> Maybe I'll add those later today, 'cause I know I included drabbles last year.

I just got out of a ridiculously long and repetitive floor meeting for the girls at the I-house. Our meeting went for almost an hour and a half. The guys were done in ten minutes. x__x

Still haven't finished the other post. I have some ranting to do about my presentation, and then some more ghei fun (and what Keri is calling my first kiss - with a boy. DUN DUN DUN. I disagree, but have to concede that if you go with the basic definition of a kiss, then yes, it was). Maybe I'll put the ghei fun here.

But first,

[livejournal.com profile] sadisticplay posted this like, a month ago, and I was going to do it then because I felt bad for guessing so many of hers (and so me posting it myself would make me feel better? I do not know). But of course, I got carried away, and so because I felt like the Jrock/pop would be so easily identifiable, I made two pictures - the cropped, "normal"-sized ones might make it a little harder to guess, though some people are pretty recognizable all over, and if you click them (just for jrock/pop), they link to bigger, more obvious pictures. And then, because I felt like no one would get most of the western groups that came up (honestly, I'm looking at these pictures, and I can't tell you who half of them are, and there's one band I couldn't even find a mediocre, decently-sized picture of so I used an album cover) - but also that I should try and make this more accessible to people who aren't on my flist for Jmusic reasons - I decided to add more Jrock/pop. So instead of 20, there are 39. >.>

1. Open a music player.
2. Go to 'all music'/'library'.
3. Hit shuffle/repeat/randomise.
4. Find photos of the first 25 artists/bands that come up (no repeats and no cheating).
5. Have people guess who the artists/bands are.
6. Paste this in your journal and do it too, so I can have fun guessing as well.

Yeaaah... I must've been really bored when I started this )

Also, alsidjfaoiwe slutPon. I may have to amend my "pon is the cutest thing ever" tag. Not that he isn't, but his photoshoot image seems to be veering away from that. Significantly. XD And randomly, what is Ryouhei wearing on his head? Bizarre rabbit ears? O___o

[20 Kanjani8 icons from the TORN fancams (6 animated) - Over here at [livejournal.com profile] dammitliz]

Like it says on that post, please don't ask me for the original videos, because my conscience doesn't like the animated icons. >.> See the post for a less cryptic explanation.

Mom got a glimpse of my computer when I was working on these, saw this and asked me who he was. I stared at Ohkura's crotch for a minute and pondered what to say. For some reason, 'stripper' came to mind, but I just said, "He's a singer." Mom calls PSing "picture stuff," too. But she's getting better about the whole Japanese music thing. I was listening to Matenrou Opera's Kaze no tori in the kitchen last week and instead of saying, "Oh, More Japanese Stuff? :/" she just asked if he (Sono) was also playing the piano.

And now, time for an icon meme. I usually see this one done with just the icons people have uploaded, but [livejournal.com profile] dammitliv ([livejournal.com profile] ice_cubed) did it with All Of Her Icons Ever, so I thought I'd give it a try and mix the two. Mom just said "we'll have to make you more like Michael." This is exactly why I don't get along with her anymore. She wants me to be more like my friends, more like her, more like Michael - as though we're all really the same person, and I'm just weird for not being able to "get over" things like my anxiety about driving. x_x

But enough of that. [livejournal.com profile] l33t_dreams gave me some icons for this meme:

1. Reply to THIS post, and I will select four or five of your userpics that I like.
2. Make a entry and talk about the icons I have chosen.
3. Other people will then comment on your entry and you will do the same as I have done for you.

4. If you want to ask about any more of my icons, comment with them! Pls? Am bored.

Behind a cut because I ramble! Also, in case other people want to add some. :D )
