Squee! As seen on the homepage of the Atherton twins (they're Castor and Pollux in Cirque du Soleil's Varekai and perform the aerial straps together): Cirque's opening a resident show in LA in 2011! Exciting. More ways to spend money! And finally, my Cirque icon makes sense again.

I still love the monochromatic photoshoot here. Well, the rest of the pictures on the site are pretty, too. Some I hadn't seen before tonight.

Er, also, I am going to be doing a friend's list cleanup today/tomorrow. It's not based on commenting (on either of our parts, since I fail at commenting on most peoples' journals, even though I do read them >.>) or drama, or me hating anyone or anything... mostly just things (my tastes, me in general, fandoms) changing. Some people will stay regardless, because I am clingy. :P So basically, this is your typical, please-don't-be-offended notification.

I think it will be my LJ New Year's Resolution to comment more, at least on peoples' journals, and for downloads and things (I barely read fic these days, but being more timely on comments for that would be good too *still owes Liv andprobablyIris a comment*). I had thought of something like posting/making X number of icons per month or something, which would also be a good idea >.>, but it's really the people that make LJ different from posting on a personal website or whatever. I'm usually intimidated when I make new LJ friends - I don't feel like I should/can comment on entries about their "real lives" because I don't know them well enough, but obviously, I won't be able to get to know them if I just lurk and read and don't ever say anything. XD It would also be nice to talk to more people on Gtalk (or elsewhere, but Gtalk is really the only thing I consistently sign in on these days, so I'll start there), since I used to talk to lots of people on a regular basis and now talk to... two on a daily basis, and maybe three or four more on occasion. ...man, even my online social life is kinda dead.

I was not really at all productive today, so... tomorrow it is! In the true spirit of procrastination. :P

Last Thursday, I went to see Cirque du Soleil's KOOZA. It was, predictably, awesome. It gets back to the roots of circus acts, focusing primarily on acrobats and clowns, but in a Cirque style. It's definitely not as awe-inspiring as most of their other shows (certainly not as much as the resident shows, which can afford to have lavish, complicated stages and such), but it was a lot of fun.

The basic story behind KOOZA is that there is this bumbling little man who can't get his kite to fly (no, not Charlie Brown). He gets a present, which turns out to be this flamboyant, self-confident acrobat, who magics the little guy away to a strange land ruled(?) by an absent-minded king, and filled with all sorts of weird people.

This ramble can basically be summed up as: If you have a chance to see Cirque du Soleil, TAKE IT. )

The first week of classes went pretty well. I've sorted my schedule out. I'm taking Music Theory I and Geography instead of Physical Science and Ecology. So far, I've got a renewed appreciation for having learned to read/play music at a young age. A few people in the class haven't had any experience with reading sheet music and some of the concepts seem hard to grasp, while I can't really remember when I wasn't able to look at a piano and have some sort of paper to read off of - even if it was just an early page from my first piano book, where the fingers were just numbered.

I think most of the people are pianists and/or guitarists. One of the other girls (there's only three of us - I was surprised) is a drummer, and one of the inexperienced guys is a musical theatre major (and hella gay >.>). I don't know if anyone else is coming in from a string group. It's kind of exciting actually learning keys and whatnot, because that was one thing I never had to figure out as a violist. As long as you could look at the music and figure out what was sharp and what was flat, it didn't matter if you knew that it was in Bb major. :P

For the short version of everything else...

Art History: Interesting, historical, artistic, yay
Early Childhood Education: A bit of review so far, but this isn't like any class I've taken before, subject-wise, so it's a good way to start
Geography: Teacher likes doomsday predictions, but he's lively so I won't fall asleep
Tutor Training: Fun, but also intimidating. It sounds like it'll be a lot of work, a lot of self-critque (we have to watch ourselves tutor on video. TWICE), but the people are interesting (we did ice-breakers. The Japanese girl pronounced my name as Erizabeth, which was cute. There's a Chinese guy named Yan - prounounced 'ying' - who does tricking, and my teacher has walked on hot coals).

One of my Japanese stalkees from last semester (Jin) has gone blondish. Or, well, a light orangey-brown. It looks better than I'm making it sound, but the jury's still out. >.>

I think that's all for school news. Parents are going out of town all next week, so I'll have the house to myself. I decided while grocery shopping with Mom that I want to move out, soon. For awhile, I've been content to just tough it out at home, but I realized that I enjoy doing things on my own - like shopping. I think grocery shopping is fun. I do my chores (and then other housework) more willingly when I don't have someone nagging me to do it. I probably don't budget my time as well, but after the initial "YAY, Freedom!" part, I settle down.

...I just need a job, first. >.>
