I was going to do some sort of concert report, but ZOMG, BLOODY MONDAY 2. Totally not going to be waiting for subs for this one before watching. XD It's unrealistic and over-the-top (especially whenever someone references "Bloody Monday," and there are dramatic pauses and a swell of music), but I am a sucker for a good action drama, and like the first one, the first episode of this definitely delivered right away.
Plus, well, the cast is nice. XDD

The biggest thing I learned from this episode is that Japan's airport security must be pretty shitty in this drama-verse, considering the number of guns and bombs around everywhere. :P
But unrealism aside, one of the things I loved about the first Bloody Monday (aside from the pretty, and the campy - but deadly! - evil, and the action, and the lack of explicit love story) was that even though it was a bit predictable, there were some plot twists I didn't see coming, and that carried through to the sequel, luckily. Like, when they kept showing the suspicious man on the plane, I was pretty sure he was going to end up being a cop or special forces, or something, but I didn't expect the accomplice to be a flight attendant (...though that does kinda make sense). And even though I thought it was odd that they said Aoi was safe without showing a glimpse of her or the place she'd been held captive, I was still surprised by the morgue scene. I just didn't expect them to kill off one of the semi-main characters from the first one so quickly.
Of course, I didn't understand most of the dialogue, so I probably missed some clues as to what would happen, and there will probably be a few more surprises revealed when subs come out.
On the character side, I actually liked Aoi! D: I mean, she was a bit on the soggy side, but it made sense for her character. More importantly, she wasn't a complete idiot, and didn't spend her time trying to be cute. And it was nice watching her smack Fujimaru when he was being idiotic. XD I am not really taking to this new female co-worker character, though. Maybe I'll warm up to her in the next couple of episodes, but she seems like a Convenient Love Interest to me. :/Maybe she'll die. Or be evil. Evil, soon. On the other hand, I am afraid for Haruka's little potential love interest/crush, though I also thought he might be ebil at first. Maybe he is!
This drama has taught me to be suspicious of all characters, especially new ones.
Things that did not surprise me (most are fairly "dur," though XD): Thehorribly-CGed plane not asploding. Maya not being dead. Anzai Mako not being dead (I'm interested in how THAT is explained). Narimiya Hiroki hamming it up like... a ham. But I do find it entertaining and sometimes creepy, so it's fun. :P Sato Takeru and Miura Haruma being pretty. :D Minami really having a heart even though she just stared Takagi down in the end (D:).
Am definitely going to need subs, but I think it's promising that I had this much flail inside even without them.
Ooh, shirts. Anyways. Class starts tomorrow, but I've only got two tomorrow, starting at 12pm, so yay!

Date: 2010-01-26 05:50 pm (UTC)I kept waiting for coworker girl to suddenly do the I'm-evil-and-have-been-playing-you-this-whole-time smile, but I think this show just likes to make us think that anyone could be secretly evil, or at least secretly coerced by evil to do bad things. (It doesn't mean she won't turn out to be evil, though.) I wasn't impressed by her, at any rate.
I worried for a second at the end that this is going to turn into the kind of show where they slowly kill off everyone the main character cares about, now that they've set the precedent with Aoi dying in the very first episode, but on second thought, Bloody Monday's not really that hardcore. Plus they can't kill off Otoya or risk losing some of their fangirl audience...

Date: 2010-01-27 09:05 am (UTC)I'm hoping that she's evil (or disposable >.>), but at the same time, I think I'd be disappointed if she was, just because it'd seem like an echo of Anzai. ...I don't know when/why I started having such high expectations for this drama. I think I'll stop doing that; it's more fun if I just hope she's predictably-evil. :P
Haha, yeah, I don't think they'll be killing Otoya off any time soon (I'm totally in the fangirl audience, but I'd finish the drama off anyways XD). He'll probably just be in perpetual danger till the end. Fujimaru doesn't seem to have enough people close to him left for them to systematically be killed off every week, though they do seem to be taking the Very Personal Revenge route.
