go go power rangers

I am sick again. I guess the bug from a couple weeks ago never really went away, though this time I started with the hacking cough and have since moved on to the sore throat, runny nose and the new ailment, headache. -_- I am so tired of this. And tired in general. And pretty anti-food, because the idea of swallowing most things makes me throat go, "WAUGH." Though I could go for ramen, or udon or something involving noodles in soup. Oooh, maybe wonton. Too bad I have only tasteless (but healthier) instant noodles.
Thursday had a definite Pro for staying in the Ihouse. I woke up 7 minutes before my midterm started. Didn't have time to brush my teeth, wash my face or put my contacts on, but I still made it in time, which I definitely would not be able to do if I lived further away. On the other hand, I'd probably have just gotten up when my alarm went off an hour before class started if I knew I had to take longer to get to school.
And in the researching (i.e. obsessive Googling/YouTubing?) of the Takagi twins, I found out that Manpei was a power ranger (Sentei ranger, rather) in the original version of Power Rangers: Jungle Fury, and that Shinpei played his evil mirror reflection in an episode. Downloaded that, which of course led to downloading more, because the evil characters are kinda hot. >.> I feel gipped. Our PR villains had the same over-the-top sort of costumes, but were not half as pretty... I remember thinking that the villain for Jungle Fury was bordering on offensive, because he was some sneering young blond guy playing a ninja master.
I'll take Araki Hirofumi (aka Rio, the lion ranger dude thing) instead, pls. And his lovely sidekick, Yuka Hirata (aka Mele, a chameleon-based character):

The original also definitely has more less-hokey violence and more ghei than the American version, both of which I approve of. I find that I even liked the horrible anamatronic animal-people characters and the excessive explosions/sparks (excessive explosions are part of my childhood!).
But mostly the people are prettier. Hiroki Suzuki played the red ranger (aminal: tiger, and later he gets weapons from a shark, and the gorilla zordthing - yes, I doubt anyone else actually cares about PR details), and while his character sort of bugged me after awhile - he was raised by panthers or tigers or something, so he's very childish, the actor's the same age as Araki and the contrast between their characters was interesting. He reminds me a bit of a squirmier, more immature Kitayama.
Mina Fukui played the yellow ranger (animal: cheetah, and later also elephant weapons, and the penguin zord - YES, really. A penguin on a surfboard, actually), and is also a gravure model, which amuses me. And yeah, she's the 'heart' of the group, but she's also not really girly or annoying (or really tomboy-ish), which was pretty cool.
And of course, Takagi Manpei played the blue ranger (animal: jaguar, and later bat weapons - really cool fans *_*, and the gazelle zord), an artist turned fighter after his brother walked off to fight Rio ten years before, and presumably died (but didn't, of course). He's the Serious one.
There were two other rangers who joined later, but I will not go into them because this was just going to be a flail/oggle post. >.>
The third main villain next to Rio and Mele was a guy named Long, played by Naoki Kawano, who used to be in JE. He was around long enough to be in some old clips that I haven't seen, but left and is now the drummer for a band called Dustz (with Fujita Ray from Princess Princess D and RH Plus, under the name of Takuto here). His character has a habit of licking his lips before doing things, which gives us this lovely ghei moment.
Context: Everyone was sent back in time. Rio lost his memories in the process and so doesn't realize he's not really living in Edo Period Japan. Long appeared to Mele, the only one who knew he existed at that point, right when she was going to kiss Rio while he was sleeping (she spent the series completely in love with him), and told her to get moving. She pointed out that Rio had no memory of who he was, and... Long solves the problem. Like this:

(...and Photobucket is being a bum for me, so maybe it won't work but I hope it does)
I cut out a bit in the middle with Mele looking shocked by Long's gheiness. >.>
Anyways, Araki Hirofumi's name sounded vaguely familiar to me, and I did not remember him looking like Rio. I remembered him looking more like this.
Further digging revealed that he is a bit of a real-life chameleon:

The first is from Sentai Rangers, obviously. Yeah, his armor fails at being armor, but I guess if your main defense is to transform into a heavily armored leonine dude, you don't really need real armor. Plus, he usually covers it with a big fur mantle. The second is from a little after Sentai Rangers came out (the other guy in the picture is Hiroki Suzuki; they're both D-Boys). The third is from around a year after the first picture. And he looks younger. >.> The fourth is from a promo for BeatRock Love, in which he plays SuG!Takeru's guitarist and bandleader and does VKish quite well (and the group's PV). Well, he's got the ear piercings for it, already... XD four in his right and two or three in his left. And the last picture is the most recent, I think... from a magazine out for March.
Anyways, really pretty. And quite iconable.
This post was originally going to be a Takagi post, so to not leave Shinpei out (....not that I really mentioned Manpei much, but at least he was in the show!). He, Yuta Jutta (Kiba from Mei-chan) and two other guys did a photobook project under the name of Nachural, and there was a DVD with it, so he isn't without his own squishy pile of fun. Plus, sleeping like tetris pieces. Jutta is pretty amusing, too. XD
....and I think that is long enough. Suffice to say, venturing out of the JE void is a scary and very fun thing. XD
Plus, dragons:
